Above is the view from close to the top of a long climb (Cat 3) out of Goleen village, looking South to Cape Clear Island and the iconic Fastnet Rock Lighthouse I do believe we have arguably the best road riding in Ireland in terms of the combination of scenery, terrain and low traffic volumes. Ok so the surfaces are not great, personally I use a Cyclocross bike which gives me the option of taking the odd bog road and boreen. On our Westerly part of the Mizen you are never far from the sea, it’s almost like riding on an island and there are plenty of challenging climbs. More of this later now I’m riding again after 2 months off with a spine impact injury which happened at sea not on the bike…
View from the top of the climb looking North over Dunmanus Bay to the Sheep’s Head Peninsula.
Thank’s for the Like Becca & Alex – hope to see you here some time !
