Coastal Medicine: A Foraging Journey From Land To Sea

Events & Workshops

Exploring and connecting in with the medicine of the land and sea through a mixture of foraging, herbal medicine & wild foods

This fusion of Jen and Samyels work is to create the space for people to fully connect in with the wide spectrum of medicine our coastlines have to offer from spending time on the rocks and in the sea through Samyels Seaweed Foraging where he weaves wonderful stories and knowledge together in a way that really helps you to absorb the wonderful information about the incredibly medicinal & tasty seaweeds growing in abundance all over this island.

Followed by a herbal walk & forage with Jen who is a practicing herbalist in West Cork. Jen has a particular interest in the importance of ritual in how we approach and make medicine from the plants that are all around us. She will be sharing knowledge about how to identify different plants along with what their medicinal uses are and how you can yourself make your own herbal remedies to have a home apothecary at your disposal.

The location is set in the beautiful Goleen Harbour where Matt & Mel have created and run an incredible space for people to stay and experience the true wildness of West Cork and its nature. They have camping and glamping options available for anyone who is attending from far away and needs accommodation – follow the link to the website to book in – https://goleenharbour.ie

Beginning at 2.30pm, Jen & Samyel will be guiding us through the afternoon of foraging, finishing up with a little cook up to taste our foraged goods and some samplings of herbal remedies before you head home, making it a fully sensorial experience. Finishing up at around 5.30pm so there still plenty of daylight hours left for some adventures around the village of Goleen if you so wish!

Make sure to bring a basket and knife or scissors to gather seaweeds and plants and also swimgear and a towel if you fancy an immersion in the salty waters!

About our hosts:

Samuel Arnold Keane is a forager and illustrator. Having gathered knowledge of seaweed foraging from traditional uses to reinvented ones. Merging ancestral skill within the modern landscape. Samuel is as passionate about the seaweeds as the stories behind them, old and new.

Jen Doran is a yoga teacher and herbalist who is based in West Cork. Herbal tradition runs through Jens bloodline with her father and great great grandmother both being herbalists which has gifted her a love of exploring connection to nature in all its shapes and forms, she loves finding new and old ways of deepening our relationship with the natural world around us and to our own inner nature and health as well, which Jen views as one and the same.

Samyel and Jen both share a love for creating space through their work for people to connect in deeply with their environment and through doing so creating ripples of awareness for how people can look after and protect the nature all around them.
