EcoCabins

Our founder Matt designed the EcoCabins to minimize environmental impact, maximize natural light, and be cosy and warm. Our EcoCabins offer a taste of tiny house living in our unique West Cork location.

Fahane South & North

Inspired by our original Harbour Garden prototype, Fahane South & North cabins are thoughtfully designed and beautifully crafted. Each features a stunning birch ply kitchen and a modern bathroom.

The cabins include a separate bedroom with a king-size bed, along with a comfortable double sofa bed in the living area. A mezzanine sleeping platform provides an additional space suitable for children, allowing the cabins to accommodate up to 4 adults and 1 child.

With breathtaking views across the Atlantic, these cabins offer a truly memorable coastal escape. Built sustainably using SIPS (Structurally Insulated Panels), they provide exceptional energy efficiency—keeping you warm in winter, cool in summer, and surrounded by peaceful comfort year-round.

Sustainability

We have installed Zero Carbon district heating system for heating and hot water.

  • All our power is generated by renewable energy
  • To date we have planted over 10,000 Native broad leaf trees
  • We have preserved our wetlands, which capture and sink more carbon than woodlands
  • Our EcoCabins tread lightly on the earth using ground screw foundations rather than concrete. They are constructed in Ireland using locally sourced and renewable materials wherever possible.
  • Sustainability also guides our interior choices. We’ve selected Irish-made Respa 4-star hotel mattresses to ensure a comfortable night’s sleep while supporting local manufacturing.
  • Our Geodomes feature furniture from The Sofa Company, a carbon-neutral business that supports traditional furniture-making in Vietnam. Their pieces incorporate recycled fabrics, combining craftsmanship with environmental responsibility.

What to Expect

The paths leading up to the cabins are gravel, but we recommend that you bring suitable footwear for walking the land in muddy conditions.

We want Goleen Harbour to be a restful and relaxing place for all our guests, so Wi-Fi is only available in the Barrel Top main building.

We have a beautiful swimming spot—just off the rocks at Castle Strand. Please note, however, that use of this swimming area is entirely at your own risk!

To help us protect this beautiful place, we ask all guests to leave the area just as they found it. Please do not litter — including cigarette butts — and be cautious to dispose of your waste in the correct bins.

Pet Friendly

As an eco-tourism destination, we are also very pet friendly, so you are welcome to bring your pet. However, we do have some rules for the benefit of all our guests:

  • All pets must be always kept on leads and under the owners’ control while visiting Goleen Harbour.
  • Pets are allowed in our Fastnet and Sherkin EcoCabins and in our Bell Tents, not in our Fahane EcoCabins or Geodomes.
  • Please pick up and dispose of your pets’ litter safely (so we don’t have to!). There are bins provided at the Fastnet camping field site for your convenience. If you are not in close proximity to these bins, please make sure it goes into bushes as this is preferable to using plastic bags.
  • Owners are responsible for the behaviour of their pets at all times and management reserve the right to ask people to leave the site if their pets are disturbing other guests or are disruptive in any way.
  • No banned breeds are allowed on site without exception!!
  • Pets cannot be left unattended at any time either in cars, tents, camper vans, cabins, or domes; this is to ensure all pets’ safety while staying with us.
  • Pet owners who have booked any of our pet-friendly accommodations must bring their own pet beds and we request that all pets are kept off furniture.
  • We politely ask that you clean any muddy paws before entering the cabins or Bell tents!
  • Finally, we charge a modest flat cleaning fee for pets for our pet-friendly cabins and domes to ensure our accommodation is perfect for our next guests.

  • Being an EcoCabin I was a bit worried about it but it was perfect. The kitchen is fully equipped: oven, fridge, small freezer, toaster, kettle everything you need.

Don’t worry about being cold, we stayed in February in a storm and we were very cozy and warm from the heaters and the cabin is well installed too. The owners are amazing people very kind and friendly they’ll go out of their way to make you feel comfortable.

It’s a in an amazing location right on the harbour, birds singing all day and at night sitting outside at the firepit you can hear owls and we even heard foxes, it’s magical. I didn’t want to leave it was amazing will definitely be back again!

  • We had a fantastic stay in Goleen Harbour. We stayed in the Fastnet cabin for a weekend in September. The cabin was just right for our needs, we had a self-catered dinner in on the first night.

The cabin had everything we needed to cook a meal, including oil and salt/pepper. The beds were really comfortable, and we all slept well, even with the rain on the second night. The ensuite bathroom was just luxury, hot water on demand. The cabin feels surprisingly spacious, and is very well laid out as a flexible space for dining, sleeping and relaxing.

The little deck was lovely to sit on while having a beer and watching the harvest moon rise, on a perfectly still night. The grounds are beautiful and wild, and Matt has made a lovely path that circles the harbour, although I didn’t manage to get a swim in the swimming spot, so I’ll have to come back.

  • We had a fantastic week in one of the cabins. Myself and my wife, 2 teenage kids and our family dog. We all loved the location and loved how easy we found the tiny house experience. It has really encouraged us to downscale and value one another’s close company more.
From the outside think Little House on the Prairie. On the inside think hotel room, but with a 360 degree view of hills, fields and the Atlantic.

Really warm and cosy. Airtight and quiet, the cabin itself was fantastic. Within a minute, we could optimise the space for sleeping, for eating and drinking or for settling back with a book or a relaxing evening.

Hot water was always available. The shower was fabulous – strong and hot and the beds were really comfy. The murphy bed, loft sleeping area, fold away table and kitchen area provide optimal space and the huge glass front provides fabulous views.
